Evaluation of Field Trip Experience:
I have lived in Northern Virginia my whole life and had never been to Great Falls National Park. This was a great first experience; I was in awe of the park's natural beauty and all that it had to offer it's visitors. I would definitely consider bringing a future class here to study any of the content areas listed above. I went with a group of classmates, which limited the amount of time that I was able to spend on each outlook. If I came here again, I would prefer to be alone, so that I may be able to explore the park with endless amount of time. This park is definitely worthy of 3-4 hours of time!
As a field trip planner, I learned that many national parks have programs designed for teachers so that field trips are affordable. I would definitely suggest to future planners to do the research and ask questions, because resources are available to make these types of trips happen for students!
I learned that field trips can be used to integrate subject areas for more than one purpose in the classroom. For example,on a field trip to Great Falls National Park, students can learn about water cycles in science AND then apply that knowledge to how water may have helped develop Virginia history. When planning field trips in the future, I will definitely be thinking about how I can use the field trip across multiple disciplines to help my students get the MOST out of their experience!
